Save the Date

Created a lookalike CHANEL* invitation to help a friend pull off a surprise proposal.

*This was a personal project and has no association with the brand CHANEL.

The Project

A friend reached out with an amazing idea—he wanted his girlfriend to believe she was invited to an exclusive CHANEL event in NYC, but when she arrived, he’d be waiting there to propose. The only problem: she has eagle eyes, so the invitation had to look realistic so she didn’t catch on.

He provided the details around location and timing, and I started looking around to see how CHANEL has designed other invitations and Save the Dates in the past.

The Design

It was important to match the CHANEL branding as much as possible. This meant tracking down the fonts, which seem to be Couture Bold for the logo, and ABChanel Corpo Light for body copy.

Since the event was meant to be a collaboration with American Ballet Theatre, I started mocking up a few options for how we might bring the two brands together in the invitation.

Feedback + Final Mockups

I sent the mockups over for feedback, and we made a few tweaks to the language and layout. I provided three final options for him to choose from:

  1. Instagram Story (No border)

  2. Email Invitation (With border)

  3. Email Invitation (With ABT logo)

He ended up choosing the first option so the invitation could appear like it was sent over social. He nailed the proposal, and I was honored to get to be a part of it 💕
